Ogni danno lascia dispiacere nella ricordazione

Engraving on slate of a sentence by Leonardo Da Vinci.

Still to add the finishing touches, soon a pic of the whole work.

On the wall - 4

Back to black to add this time a fragment of De Tranquillitate Animi by Lucius Annaeus Seneca.

For this new addition, I used a visigothic script with a larger brush.

subproduct

A picture of the paper which was under my lastest work on zinc while I washed up the varnish.

It makes a beautiful abstract work, residue of zinc oxide and varnish on paper.

On the wall - 3

This is the next step in the calligraphy on my wall, this time the text is a fragment from Der Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse in its french version and with a gothic script.

Two steps to go and this work will be over.

Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness

Or, in the latin version (the one I used) : Exortum est in tenebris lumen rectis corde (Psalms CXII.4).

I used my engraving technique to create this candle holder which is in fact holded by the candle and not the opposite but let's not be bothered by such details :-)
The script is the NEULAND designed by Rudlof Koch and I'm quite happy with the result even if, as always with zinc and acid, the engraving is somewhere irregular.

Acid 1 - Benoit 0

The mark is in fact much higher in favour of the acid, I just can't remember how many plates of metal went to the trash because of a too long exposure to acid.
Here is a picture of my last failure, not enough varnish and a too long bath in acid...

On the wall - 2.1

To meet a request by my esteemed professor, here is a view in perspective of my work in progress on the wall. I only added a few lines since the last pic, finishing the quotation from the Aeneid.

On the wall - 2

Second step, I've continued a bit the poem by Keats and added a fragment from the Aenid by Virgil.

Starts to look good...
